September Summary

So, spring has started with glorious summery days and rainy days too - yay, the garden loves it!


Update on the land is that all four lots have been sold, we've paid our deposit, the boundary pegs are in and the driveway has been started (see photos on September 16th post). We have a version 1 and 1b plan (see House Plans to the right) and we are still not quite happy with the arrangement of the west wing. North is just to the left of straight up the page. The master bedroom, ensuite and walk in wardrobe are all a bit big and the lounge could be larger. We are also thinking that the study will become larger to fit a queen sized bed for when we have visitors to stay. The children's rooms also need to be larger, probably by about half a metre to the north. I've also been to a couple of kitchen places, one of whom is going to draw up a plan for us, so next step is to work out what goes where and whether or not it all works.




We had our first summer BBQ at Matt & Dale's sunny abode the other weekend. It was great to have a nice and relaxed lunch, and yummy birthday cake too. The sun shone, then the clouds came over by the wind didn't come until that evening and the rain overnight! All the boys, large and small, enjoyed playing ball in the yard when they weren't on BBQ duty.




Di gave me some lemons the other day, and while the children were all sleeping I decided to bake with them. First up was some lemon curd - lemon juice and rind, caster sugar, butter (olivani in my case) and eggs - easy as and tasty too. We sampled it on the freshly baked bread that Si had put in the breadmaker early in the day. Just need to remember to put enough water in the bottom pot and to mix the eggs in well.




Daddy decided that he wanted to take his boys on the Weka Pass Railway (up on the road to Hanmer Springs) as his birthday outing, so we went the weekend after his birthday, when the steam train was running. The boys enjoyed it, especially watching the engine being turned around for the return journey.

I'm starting to think about birthdays and christmas so have bought the fruit for the Christmas Cake and planned what cakes I'm making for the boys' birthdays. A concrete mixer for Nate and a seaplane on a jelly lake for Brad.
