Christchurch Farmers Market & Quince Paste

Yesterday morning we went to the Christchurch Farmers Market at Riccarton Bush to get some veges and seedlings for our garden. We can't remember if the veges were organic or not, but they are definitely local and very tasty - carrots, long beetroot, agria potatoes (one of my favourites), and some rather good looking & tasting seconds organic apples for $1/kg. Si choose 3 trays of seedlings to raise - radicchio, perpetual spinach & kohlrabi. We also bought a loaf of bread & morning tea (yummy danish pastries from an Artisan Baker) and some goats milk blue cheese, made in Greenpark, Canterbury. We are definitely going back for more good local food and beer too!

In the afternoon I finally got around to doing something with the 3kg of Quinces that we collected from the local park and made Quince Paste. Its pretty easy, and has heaps of sugar. It set really well (especially as Quince has high level of pectin) and is a slice-able, apricot jam type of flavoured, spread for bread, crackers, etc and is apparently really good with blue cheese - will have to try that out this arvo.
